2019 Festival: Safety Goggles Not Required: Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do with Your Laptop (2:00pm showing)

Saturday May 4, 2019 from 2:00pm - 2:45pm ET

Computational modeling drives everything from making animation more art-directable, to experimenting with theories of cancer growth without getting dirty, to the design of materials later used in engineering. In a “laptop laboratory,” mathematicians can explore how information would travel through these “created” materials, tracing future applications and solving problems before they have even occurred in the science lab, let alone the everyday world.

This presentation repeats the session taking place from 10:15-11:00am.

Dr. Suzanne L. Weekes

Dr. Suzanne L. Weekes is Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. Her interests are in mathematical and computer models that play a part in real world applications such as movie animation, the development of materials which can be engineered in the future, and cancer growth. She co-directs the national... Learn more
