2019 Festival: Mathical Reading with Dr. Richard Schwartz: “Really Big Numbers”

Really Big Numbers (opens new window): Hard enough for teens without a doubt, but crafty third-to-fifth graders should sneak in and really enjoy this talk, too! Dr. Richard Schwartz’s title is a colorful multi-age book that gives an intuitive feel for numbers. The numbers in the book range from very small to so incomprehensibly huge that you need special notation just to write them down! Schwartz will read a sample of his favorite pages in the book, explaining what he was thinking about when he drew the pictures and discussing some of the mathematics behind the pictures in a friendly, inviting way.
